Summer is Just Around the Corner!

An early spring means an early summer! That means it's time to start thinking about the water again! District 196 Community Education is offering swimming lessons and competitive swimming classes for all ages. They offer caring and dedicated Red-Cross trained instructors in order to offer you and your children the best possible service in a friendly environment. District 196 also offers open swim events scheduled until the end of march! These open swim events are going to be located either at Scott Highlands Middle School or Black Hawk Middle School. For more information and specific times click here.

Are you an advanced swimmer? District 196 has a class for that as well! They offer training for grades 3 and up who are interested in competitive swimming. Adult fitness classes are available as well triathlon training! If you would like more information on competitive swimming click here.

Farm Babies!

Come out to the Minnesota Zoo and enjoy the sights and sounds of spring at the Wells Fargo Family Farm. There’s nothing cuter than baby chicks, piglets, lambs, calves, goat kids, and bunnies. There will be fun, hands-on kids' activities on April 6 & 7.
Activities:

• Tractor Rides from the Grain Elevator to the Farm (Friday, Saturday, Sundays)
• Kids' activities at the farm April 6 & 7 (11:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.)
• "Peter Rabbit" Costume Character (10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.) – Saturday, April 7
• Face painting (11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) April 6 & 7
• Take a ride in the AgCab Lab tractor provided by MN Farm Bureau 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Weekends only)

My DIY Project- Creating a Playroom

My husband and I are converting a little used room in our home to a playroom for our daughter.  At 15 months old, our very active little girl's "stuff" has taken over every corner of our home.  She has learned to put away her things with some prompting so the time may be right to give her an organized space to contain some of her fun. 

Due to our crazy schedules, we had one day last weekend to get started and now this upcoming weekend to finish.  The room is a carpeted 11 x 12 room with no closet or overhead lighting.  It has two windows and French doors opening up to the hallway. 

First, we (I am using the term we loosely, as my husband did all of this part of the project) emptied the room and pulled up the carpet and the baseboard trim.  We sealed the subfloor to take care of any residual effects from our pets.  Below is a picture of the room right now. 

After a couple of days of shopping around, we purchased new flooring.  Just three or four arguments later, we decided to go with a wood laminate flooring. This is an inexpensive option that is should be easy to clean up spills.  For under $300 for the materials, we would be fine upgrading in the future as our needs for the room change.
